i had a short in my wireing when I went up a hill and I melted the steering column and now it wl not start what is it

All the bad wiring will have to be replaced. You will find the short when tracing the wires that need replacing. Depending on how bad and what got fried, you may have to replace the wiring harness in the steering column.
