1996 ford thunderbird lx transmission

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Thunderbird lx, 4.6 auto slams into gear and kills
the engine unless I rev the thing to 1200 or more
before putting it in. Happens in all gears including
reverse. Not the tourque converter because I had a
new one installed and it still does it. Any
suggestions?

Your trans is electronically controlled, so I'd have it checked out, might be a solenoid that is faulty.

Okay. The mechanic did say some wires were melted against the exhaust pipe but he fixed those. Is the solenoid internal or external? Thinking maybe the burnt wires messed something up.
