Asked by Feb 23, 2016 at 11:11 AM

Question type: General

I just measured the diameter of my alloys just out of
curiousity. It measured 17 (and bit extra inches)
despitethe fact that my wheels are 205/55R16 -
where 16 is the tyre diameter (inside diameter)? Am
I missing something? Can somebody solve my
mistery? Also Im woundering if I would buy alloys
which happened to be 19 inch (outisde diameter) do
I but 18 inch tyre?

Thank you!

By measuring from lip to lip, yes it will seem bigger than it is. The inner barrel itself measures 16" and thats why you need a size 16 tire. Therefor if you buy 19" wheels, you will need to buy 19" tires.

First, make sure 19" wheel/tire combo will fit on your vehicle without any interference from the wheel wells. You will also have to recalibrate your speedo for the larger wheels.

In regards to recalibrating your speedo, that's not necessary as long as your overall rolling diameter is within 3% of your stock wheel/tire setup.
