Car idles down and dies
I just put a new alternator and serpentine belt on
my car a few days ago. The night I brought it home
it would die when I would come to a stop. That
didn't bother me much. but today I was driving and
all the symptoms of a bad alternator started
happening. I got it home by turning everything off
including the lights. As soon as I got in my
driveway it died. 10 minutes later I tryd to start it
and it starts fine and idles fine so I turn my lights
radio heat etc on to see if it was the alternator and
it died when I turned all that on. This has plagued
me for almost 2 weeks ever since the old
alternator went out. Also the oil pressure Guage
quit working even though I have the right amount
of oil is it related??? It can't be the alternator or the
battery if I can get it to start after letting it sit for a
few minutes right? The car is a 90 eclipse.
These cars have issues with the negative battery cable connections. Check and clean where it connects to battery, frame and motor. This will cause your sort of issues
It doesn't look dirty or anything. I checked it when I made sure they were secure. But I'll double check now.
What do you mean by Frame and motor
The negative battery cable goes from your battery and bolts to the frame and then it bolts to the motor.
I cleaned them and started it and it runs good but once I turn my lights heat and radio on it starts to die still
Then I turned it off and once again it wouldn't start. It just turns over and cranks a few times followed by clicking
might just be an idle air control valve dirty/faulty or dirty throttle plate also causing this.
Is that an expensive repair?
Cleaning them you can do yourself
I would but I have no tools or money at the moment. The car won't even start now. It just turns over.
