Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a 1972 Super Beetle that had
been stored in a warehouse for 9 years at
first it would stall out when you stopped but
it would turn right back on and then after a
three hour trip the last time it stalled out
when I turn the switch to turn it back on
there was no connection at all but the lights
still work. The generator light was on but
apparently has a short because it kep going
on and off, along with other dash lights

I would guess that the fuel system is really gummed up after sitting for 9 years. You may have to drain and clean the fuel tank and clean and flush the entire fuel system and rebuild the carburetor.

They did the fuel system before I bought it. If I push start it, it runs.. pretty good actually.. until you have to stop. Almost seems like the ignition wire burnt up. Is that possible? I figured the carburetor needed help.. but when I turn the key there is absolutely nothing. But the lights still work and like I said it will run if you push start it
