Concerning a thermostat

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Problem with thermostat is doing the same as before I replaced it dinging and the heat gauge needle going from 100-200 never going into the red zone. The mechanic said this was normal action of the thermostat opening and closing but why would it do this it even dings sometimes when I am setting with it in park Is this normal??
