My 2002 Lincoln navigator is stuck in 4 wheel drive. How can I get it out?

Have you tried shifting to neutral and then switching to 2 wheel high?


First block the wheels and put the trans in nuetral, turn on the key, while someone is pushing the 2WD button lightly tap on the transfer case motor, if it runs and get you into 2WD then great, you can replace the shift motor later, just don't try to put it in 4 WD until you get it fixed. If the motor doesn't run, you can remove the motor assembly and manually put the transfer case in to 2WD by turning the pawl in the right direction, then at least you can drive so you can check the GEM later.
