http://www.e46fanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=885886 a forum for 3-series BMW says theirs last upwards of 200,000 miles and applies to all bimmers. http://blog.bavauto.com/10781/bmw-and-mini-catalytic-converter-failure-diagnosing-fault-codes-and-fuel-trims/ ..says the "life of the car" BUT a chronically overheating, or rich running engine, or cheap gas or a combination of these will drastically reduce it's life

The bavauto site explains a lot. "Fuel Trim is the Key" Quote. If your cat fails, it needs to be diagnosed why or it will not last, "replacing the cat treats the symptom not the cause"
