why do I have to pull my motor to replace my transmission. I have a 99 Tacoma 4x4

It's because some of the bolts and linkages are impossible to access from under the truck. When Cars/Trucks are manufactured . the engine and transmission are assembled as a unit , then the chassis is lowered over the drive train

yeah like Tom said. when they make cars not very much thought goes into access anymore .
