Where is the transmission range sensor on a 2004 grand marquis?

On 1992 and later models, the neutral safety switch is incorporated into the Manual Lever Position or Transmission Range MLP/TR sensor. click to size up

This is the actual sensor, and if you replace it you need an alignment tool, but it's just a flat piece of plastic with a notch
