My 84 fiero backfired and died. No spark to
the spark plugs fule pump works. Could it b
ignition coil

Could be the coil but it is more likely that it is the ignition module inside the distributor. Unplug the ignition coil, put a test light between the two connectors on the coil plug, crank engine and look for a the light to flash, if it flashes then it is the coil, if there is no flash then it is most likely the module. If the ignition module or pickup has never been replaced now would be a good time to do them both, sometimes it is cheaper to replace the entire distributor, your parts store can tell the best way to go.
