Depends. If you buy a late model car you may be covered by the remainder of the original factory warranty. If you buy a car from a used car dealer you can usually buy a warranty from an outside warranty company. These usually cover the major systems such as engine, transmission, etc. If you buy a car from a private person there is no warranty. Same applies to any vehicle sold "as is". There may be hidden warranties depending on where you live. For example in NJ any vehicle bought from a dealer that is less than 10 model years old and has less than 100,000 miles is guaranteed to pass state inspection the first time after you buy it. If it fails the dealer must fix it for free. HTH. -Jim
