it just keeps on cranking and cranking
I don't think the gas from the gas tank

is going to the engine . Is ther like a
fuel pump by the gas tank that pumps
Fuel to the engine?

Yes. You should be able to hear the pump with the key in the ignition position, engine running or not. Check the fuel pump fuse and relay. If either of these has failed, you are probably going to have to replace your fuel pump as well, as a worn and dying pump pulls more amperage and is indicative of same.
