Dealer suggested synthetic oil for my last change. Said it was supposed to be synthetic or could void warranty. Ok. If synthetic, then why change at 3000 mile interval?

The 3000 mile oil change is a gaff. It's all about the Benjamins. Depending on your driving habits and road conditions. 5000 miles using synthetic oil is more then conservative.

Oh, and if you are going to do it yourself, keep the recipes and make a log. And use an Kia approved oil filter.
