2001 chvey pickup 1500 wont start after installing a battery that has been dead for 4 months

Do the lights, radio & other electrial things work with the new battery?

dealer is telling me it needs to be brought in and re-coded
If you hear a click sound from the starter then nothing, it may be a bad starter, If a anti theift light is on with no click from the starter then I would tend to agree with the dealer.... Computers were rather primitive in 2001.
