1996 Toyota Camry squeeling sound when A.C. turned on just after engine started. Sound stops the second A.C. turns off.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I wait less than a minute and
turn A.C. back on and it is fine.
Sound does not happen again
during driving. The squeeling
sound does not happen every
time the A.C. is turned on either.
If it does happen it seems to be
only if the car has not been run
for 8 hrs or more but doesn't
happen each time.  The A.C. was
serviced 7 mths ago when it
didn't get cold. Fixed it gets nice
and ice cold. The squeeling
sound just started about 2
weeks ago.

Check the belts and tensioner pulleys first. If those check out, look at the bearings on the accessories (Alternator, A/C compressor) etc. Open the hood when the engine is running to pinpoint the area of the squeal.

Thanks, Tom, I will look to see where squeal is coming from and go from there. Thanks for your quick reply! Happy Holidays!
