can cracks on the distributor cap that didn't get through from one side to other side cause ignition problems?

can cracks on the distributor cap,that didn't penetrate from inside the plastic to the outer side of the plastic,cause ignition problems?i mean like a long scored path inside the cap that is not deep into the otherside (outer side)?oppose to cracks  that penetrate both sides and can see both sides?
