I am looking for a used car and the parameters won't let me go earlier than 2013 / 2014...... what gives ?

2013 and 2014 are considered NEW cars. Some dealers still have some new 2013's on their lot. You must have been in the "New Car" search area.

Yes..... I did notice that after I asked.... Do you have a side by side comparison area of the site ?
