Can you test idle control valve?

the idle air control, is a series of chambers that a regulated amount of air enters the primary combustion mix for control of idle speed~ normally it just gets clobbered up with carbon, varnished with gasoline...air and needs to be cleaned~...periodically....if it's causing terrible idle...this and any number of devices can cause idling problems~ I'm guessing it's a Honda...give me a sec to find a picture~
