I have a 1995 Buick Park Ave Ultra with OBD 1 . Autozone offers a reader for 30$. Will this tool be helpful in dealing with problems this car has?
1995 BUICK PARK AVE ULTRA
RUNS GOOD EXCEPT IS USING A LOT OF FUEL.
SAT FOR 2 YEARS
PULLS TO THE RIGHT
TRACTION CONTROL OFF LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON
SECURITY LIGHT IS LIT MOST OF THE TIME
No, only if your "service engine soon" or "check engine" light is on. Since its a GM OBD I you can pull trouble codes yourself using a paper clip. Find the ALDL connector. It's under the dash near the steering column. It's a large black electrical connector. With the key OFF use your paper clip to connect the two terminals in the upper right corner of the connector together. Push one end of the paper clip into the terminal that's at the top right corner of the ALDL connector and push the other end of the paper clip into the terminal that is next to it. Turn your ignition on but do NOT start the engine. Your service engine soon light will begin flashing a reference code 12 (flash, pause, flash flash). It will do that 3 times then begin flashing out any trouble codes. Each trouble code will flash 3 times before moving on to the next. Once all the stored code(s) have been flashed the reference code 12 will begin flashing again. A trouble code 32 will flash as follows: flash, flash, flash, pause, flash flash. Then a long pause and on to the next trouble code. There, you just saved $30.00. HTH. -Jim
