Does any new suv have arm rests or adjustable consoles for my petite wife

Asked by Dcarsuv May 18, 2013 at 10:08 AM

Question type: General

My wife needs to move seat high and forward and cannot connect with console after
seat adjustment. Does any suv have armrests ( Lexus discontinued) or adjustable
console to make her long trips easier?

The redesisigned 2017 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck has armrests integrated with seats. Very comfortable for petite wife when she moves seat forward. Ridgeline is a front wheel drive unibody vehicle similar to Honda Pilot SUV, does not drive like a truck.

I have the same problem when I pull my seat up - has anyone found a new suv that has arm rests attached to the seat?

I have the same issue and cannot find any conversion kits for the center console. I love my 2013 Ford Edge which has the perfect set-up, but Ford has changed the configuration making the new models with short center armrests. Terrible for us short people. The only ones I have found are the Audi Q5 (a bit smaller than what I want) and the Acura RDX (also a bit small). Hopefully a few car manufacturers will read this post and remember that not all drivers are tall. It would be an easy fix to have a hinge that allows the center armrest to slide forward!!!! In the meantime, many of us short people are still driving older vehicles because there is nothing that fits us in the current line-up!!

I believe the new Nissan Kicks small SUV has an arm rest attached to drivers seat. I have not been to dealer to confirm or take close up picture.

I have the same problem and have hung on to my Honda CRV 2010 for this reason. Up to 2014 they included driver arm rests. Very comfortable. Looking for new car that has adjustable arm rests or attached to driver seat. Any other recommendations appreciated.

I have been looking for over a year now, just drove the 2019 honda pilot which has armrests on the seat but the vehicle is way to big for me. I saw the Honda CRV 2014 has the arm rests. Any other suggestions would be helpful/

All of the Buick Encores have a drivers seat armrest. Had same problem with useless center consoles, but Encores armrest did the trick.

I have the same issue! Holding on to my old 2012 CRV because I am 5 feet so I need the arm rest attached to the seat. I can’t believe manufactures don’t listen to consumers. Small suv are specially for small people so they should cater to us!

Feb 2019. I too am short and still have my 2009 Honda CRV because of the arm rest attached to the seat. I also really like the size and the car. Seems to me Honda and Hyundai would listen to us and put these back or at least give us an option. I would special order if I could!

The 2019 Honda Passport has the armrest attached to the seat. However, in Honda’s infinite wisdom they made it to ratchet up and down which really sucks. The model I reviewed at the dealership already had the armrest broken....not very well thought out plan Honda Corp.

I’m keeping my Honda CRV for same reason, armrest attached to each front seat. Waiting for Honda to bring it back to replace the silly little console they call an armrest in the center. The center console on my 2013 holds my purse inside, it’s deep. Or my purse sits on top of the flat center console. That makes sense, I’m sure it was designed by a woman! Come on Honda no woman wants to have to reach around the front seat to pick up her purse on the floor or backseat! Bring back the 2013 design! I want a new car!

I have a 2011 crv with 230,000+ miles and beginning to cost me a lot of money in repairs. I don’t drive for long trips. I chose the crv because of the arm rests. I’m REALLY disappointed that Honda stopped making arm rests.

An issue for my wife, too. The 2019-20 CRV and 2020 Acura RDX (don't know about earlier years) have sliding arms rests. The Buick Envision and Mercedes GLC both have long, sweeping armrests which are good too.

We had a 2010 Mazda CX 9, and now currently have a 2016 Mazda CX 9 And both have a nice high center console between the front seats. You can sit comfortably and rest your arm on the console. Many other vehicles I have been in, you have to lean over in order to put your arm on the console. The CX 9 is very comfortable to drive in

Same problem...long trips especially. I have Dodge Grand Caravan, 2014 which is great is this regard, but I don't they'll make a Caravan 2021. Those of you looking to trade to a late model, the current Dodge minivans have them and are--in spite of the negative hype--great cars for a family, camping, hauling--or just driving. And relatively inexpensive to buy and operate.

Range Rovers have arm rests that raise up and down in the front. Range Rover Sports used to but I think the newer ones might not. Makes a huge difference. My old VW camper vanagon has them also and it takes so much pressure off your back and torso on long trips. Can't believe more car co's don't realize this and discuss it more with the public. esp given how much they integrate fancy technology like massage and venting and lumbar.

Hang onto your Honda CRV if you have armrests! I had a 2014 in perfect condition with only 65,000 miles on it. Traded it in for a 2020 Honda CRV and worst mistake I ever made. I'm only 5'1" and I need armrests! Plus, I didn't realize newer cars don't come with CD players, lighted mirrors, etc. Pushy sales people where I went. Can't wait for the day I can trade it in and not be upside down!

One reason I don’t want to get rid of my 2013 Honda CRV.

Any more updates? I need a new SUV or car. The Toyota Highlander up until 2009 had armrests attached to the seats. That is one reason, that is the comfort factor, that I can’t let the car go. I even purchased a Telluride and returned it because of no armrests. Help!

I am the gal that posted the original question. To make a long story short, I ended up purchasing the new 2020 Edge as it otherwise met all my needs. It is superb in terms of the front seats being adjustable (both driver and passenger) height-wise (a rare thing) and back and forth and also extremely comfortable, even for a smaller person. The shorter armrest is not as bad as I might have imagined at least for city driving. I am planning a custom modification on the armrest though when we are once again able to make the trek to our vacation home. For me, the Edge was the best choice being not too big or too small with lots of safety features, perfectly scaled seats, etc. The Audi may have adjustable armrests still, however, it too expensive for many people’s everyday needs. Good luck to you all!

I've been thinking about it. I'm going car shopping now and I might get a pilot just because of the armrests I love my Mazda CX- 5 but for the past 3 years I have been in pain if I drive it for more than an hour it's so uncomfortable.

Check out the Honda CR-V (from 2018). It has a center armrest which will slide forward maybe 6 inches. If you're wanting a little more upscale, it the same with the Acura RDX.

I am currently looking to purchase a small SUV and looking at the 2021 Nissan Rogue, and yes, have the same issue with no armrest. Not sure why this is as it's such an important feature. It just makes driving more comfortable, however Amazon sells a product that may just do the trick!! A fellow follow-uper of this question posted the link and thank GOD!!https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YDJL5QC/ref=ewc_pr_img_1? smid=AT4UQTTNTZJCN&psc=1

Not only are center armrests needed for shorter drivers, but the whole center console thing is a pain. I still love the bench seat. Oh, well. But handicapped drivers who need to slide across the seat to get in, are out of luck with the console. Next, the gear lever is going. Who wants to look down at letters and numbers on a small wheel/gear device to shift??? Give me a lever every time. Who's making these crazy auto decisions?

I had the same problem and could not find a good SUV with the armrest for years and gave up. I am now on a trip and rented a 2021 Chrysler Pacifica mini- van and it had an armrest! So I was reminded of it and found this thread as I looked to see if any manufacturer has put this feature back or not. Looks like they only build their models for tall people, and they even eliminate features that is more suitable for petite people. Rediculus!

I just rented a 2021 Honda Passport EX-L on a trip and it had adjustable, individual armrests that are attached to each front seat, and was really quite comfortable. I have a neck injury, so the seat is critical. It also has 10-way adjustable driver's seats that can raise and lower, along with lumbar support.

Still searching for the arm rest for short people….thank goodness my 2014 Honda CR-V is in great shape! I have given up hope!

I have a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country and previously drove a Chrysler Pacifica because both vehicles have the much-needed arm rests. I’m 5’1 and can’t drive longer than a half hour without support for my arms unless I want mid-back pain.
