I am taking out transmission in 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4...how do I take out the shifter?

inside cab ,remove rubber boot plate and boot ,acess trans top, unbolt cast top plate lift shifter and forks up and out

Ok, that's what I thought, but I took the six screws out of the rubber boot plate and the plate won't come up, it's like it is sealed to the carpet and I don't want to mess the carpet up. (yes I am a woman trying to do a man's job lol) I didn't know if there was some trick to taking it out after removing the screws.

they stick from age,pull it up things go back in place, good enough
