I have a 2001 vw jetta 5 speed manual transmission and it wont go into 1st or 2nd. I had a car to stop in front of me so I went to down shift to help slow down , but instead of going to 4th I went to 2nd. It didn't go in gear but felt funny through the shifter. When I came to a stop, it wouldn't go into 1st or 2nd. All other gears work fine. Nothing that I can see looks to be out of ordanary under the shifter in the consol or on the transmission. Any ideas what to do. Its my work car and I have to get it going. Thank you !! 4 Answers

Was rolling in 5th gear going 60, heard aloud screeching noise and it threw us forward in the seat and slowed it immediately to about 40.I pulled off to the side of the road and smoke was coming from under the truck.I looked around and couldn't see anything visibly wrong.I started it up again just fine and started rolling in 1st gear, then I tried to shift to 2nd the truck just stopped and wouldn't go into any gear.At this point the truck will start but when I let the clutch out, it dies(in neutral). Had to remove my drive shaft to be towed on towrope because it wouldn't roll smooth in neutral. When the engine is running now I don't feel any vibration through the gearshift anymore like how I used to before it broke down. What could it be? 3 Answers

About 3 weeks ago I went to start up my 2009 Honda Civic Sedan lx and lights came on and everything but wouldn't start. On the third time trying to start it none of the lights came on, so I changed the battery. I tried starting it with the new battery, all lights came on perfectly, but it wouldn't turn over. I changed the starter and the car ran fine with no problems for maybe 2 weeks. This morning I was driving down the road when the check engine light came on and the engine suddenly started to rev up uncontrollably. I was able to brake but it was very hard to do because the engine kept revving. Without my foot on the brake the car was going 30 something mph, when I braked and got below 15 I felt a hard downshift. Has anyone had these simliar problems or know what might have cause this kind of behavior? 3 Answers

i have a 2003 jetta gli, six speed. last week was on the way home and was not able to shift out of 2nd gear. the shifter would move but would not change gears. i have narrowed it down to the linkage attachment at the base of the shifter. my question is how the heck do i get to it?? i was able to use a pair of needle nose pliers and was able to reconnect and it shifts fine, however the little piece that kept the linkage attached is broken. How do i replace it? From the top, or from the bottom. help!?1 2 Answers
