Best car to get for 17 year-old boy?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

We're going to be looking for our first son's first car. We need a clunker in the family that is cheap to insure. Hopefully, it will take him to college in a couple of years but, let's be realistic. He'll probably wreck it before then. We're thinking Volvo wagon. Something big, heavy, SAFE! Price range $2-5K.

Your on the right track. Something big and safe with an airbag. Cheapest cars to insure, seriously, think anything a "soccer mom" would drive. 4 door sedans vs 2 door or hatch. Ford Taurus comes to mind.
