Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What makes my gas guage to malfunction when pulling single axle cargo trailer
from Denver, CO to Central Kansas.  I got to 238 miles when I ran out of gas but
the guage showed just below a half a tank remaining. On my next tank the guage
worked correctly again.  The is the 2nd time it's happened.  What is amiss?
Thanks for your help

what was the angularity of the rear end of tow vehicle ? if the tank is mounted longitudialy (front to back) this may be the cause . however most electric pumps are mounted right on the sending unit . you may have a grounding problem through your hitch . PBN

if it's intermittant like you describe may be the float arm on the sending unit is sticking when the car's rear end is weighed down with the trailer
