isnt a lambo necesserely better than a ferrari

It's a matter of opinion in some aspects. Take for instance the Lamborghini Gallardo and the Ferrari F430. I think the F430 is better looking. The Gallardo is AWD. The Ferrari is RWD. The Gallardo uses a V10. The F430 uses a V8. HP is comparable, 500 for the Gallardo, 490 for the F430. Top speed is identical. Weight is also comparable 3156 (Lambo) vs. 3190 (Ferrari). 0-100 kmh is identical at 4.0 seconds. But the Ferrari is the superior status figure. The Lambo might be more showy, but it doesnt even have Lambo scissor doors.
