Do I need to sand new headlights to add clear coat?

Asked by Craigslist May 26, 2022 at 07:00 PM

Question type: General

I want to keep my new plastic headlights from yellowing
and I've heard a clear coat will help with that.

Do I need to sand my new headlights to add clear coat? If
so, which grit would I need to use?

Clear coat will peel and make cleaning them up a big headache. Just use a good plastic polish on them. I polish my headlights in the spring and again in the fall and so far they look great. Vehicles are a 2010 and a 2013.

If your existing headlights were yellow from the UV, I would polish them and maybe lightly sand them and then add a UV clear coat to them. But you said you put on new lenses. Then just keep the new one cleaned and polished. I use carnauba car wax on mine every time I wash the vehicle.
