2009 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71 4 by 4 engine swap

will a 2004 5.3 motor work in my 2009
Silverado and if not what are the
reasons why it won't can I have to do
some fabrication or anything to make it
work

The biggest thing is Displacement on Demand also known as active fuel management that shuts off 4 cylinder for fuel efficiency. Also the intake manifold might fit a bit differently. But it should bolt up most likely. I would inspect the intake ports to see if they match otherwise you'll either have to modify it or swap cylinder heads. I personally don't care for displacement on demand because of the issues that arise in it. But swapping in the 2004 in the 2009 is doable it is the same bell housing bolt pattern and overall engine.
