why is it chain reaction malfunctioning

Probably something to do with it being 35 years old. It obviously sits for long periods of time without being driven. Neglect is one of the worst things to do to a vehicle.

Letting a vehicle sit for that length of time is absolutely the worst thing you can do to it! Especially if it's parked outside!! Time and the elements are a vehicle's worst enemy! I have two vehicles that I don't drive much. They're garaged and I make it a point to start and run them several times a year, even if I don't drive them. My 2000 Grand Prix hasn't been out of the garage since December 31, 2018. Every few months I start it and leave it run. I work all the accessories, shift the transmission through all the gear positions, just to keep things moving and working. Even so its developed a problem with the ABS. Most likely rust or corrosion on one of the sensors from sitting. Honestly, after sitting for 14 years I'm suprised your motorhome runs at all! Hope that helps! Jim
