Question type: Maintenance & Repair

ignition switch, and battery have
been replaced. Car won't crank?
There is no clicking from the
solenoid/starter.  I had the starter
checked out at  the parts store
and it's good, but it does nothing
when you try to crank the car. I
mralp voltage going to the starter
and solenoid both have 12 volts
going to each.

Happen to unhook the battery while this was getting worked on you might have set off your security system basically from what I understand kills fuel and starter operation when triggered do you have any flashing lights on your dashboard or your radio indicating that the security system is active?

You have GMs VATS security system. If the security system is involved, a no crank situation is going to be the ignition lock cylinder. To confirm this you need to measure the resistance value of the chip on the ignition key. Then unplug the ignition lock cylinder plug from under the dash and, with the key in the ignition, measure the resistance value of the unplugged wires. If you don't get a reading the lock cylinder is bad. The new lock will come with a template for cutting new VATS keys. But the template will not start the engine. Compare the resistance value of the old ignition key to the chart below to determine which key you need. There were 15 possibilities. Hope that helps! Jim
