Salvaged or Branded Titles

Asked by Malcazar80 Jun 13, 2020 at 01:40 AM

Question type: General

Why are Salvaged or Branded title vehicles sold and priced similarly with clean
title vehicles?  Vehicles with Salvaged or Branded Titles are not the same as an
undamaged used vehicle.  In many cases these vehicles are not put back to
manufacturer specifications, only enough to pass local ordinances.  Insurance
and finance companies don’t treat them the same either.  Future losses will be
underpaid by insurance companies because of the title status.  I don’t think it’s
fair for them to sell the equally with non branded title vehicles.

I understand the listing part, but the ethical thing to do is post note advising potential buyers of the branded title with a link to potential risks. Being complacent to an unethical practice some dealers have of passing these vehicles as regular vehicles or trying to imply that those vehicles are somehow better is wrong. Many consumers aren’t very well informed and will fall victim to these predatory practices. I strongly believe CarGurus should keep potential buyers interest first and critically regulate vendors with strict guidelines. From some of ads I’ve seen over the years that isn’t the case. I hope you understand where I’m coming from with this. A lot of online retailers are beginning to enforce ethical rules on marketplace type sites.
