1997 Toyota corolla 1600cc

Hi folks I just got an old work 1997 Toyota
corolla, change the oil as car was sitting a
white, it starts and runs good, my heater
stopped working, was driving and see steem
coming from under the bonnet, I pulled over
and seen the radiator cap was missing, I
bought a new new one and the heater still
didn't work so put a new thermostat in and
thank God the heater is working.. my
question is where dose the temperature
gauge meant to sit on dash? It's sits just
below the halfway mark, Cheers and thanks
