1998 Dodge Ram 1500
Truck will not start and when hooked up to the scanner it will not communicate? On cranking over it does get fuel and spark but won't start. With no check engine light or codes what could be some possibilities?
If it won't start and the PCM (Computer) won't communicate with the scan tool I suspect a bad PCM. HTH. -Jim
Which scanner are you using?
computer. 80 bucks at salvage yard
Then you have to get it flashed (programed) using your VIN to work. -Jim
Does the OBD II port have power going to it? There has been a few cases on that year model truck that has issues with that plug under your steering wheel failing to communicate.
as long as the vehicle has the same motor and tranny setups itshould just plug in and work.
have u put any aftermarket electronics in it? if so doublecheck the wiring. also check fuse links, ign. control mod. if youve got spark and gas idk why it wont at least try to turn over...
is there a fuse link on 98 ram 1500 sport \
I have the same problem on my 96 Ram. It spins but won't fire up. The check engine light is not on. If the check engine light does come on it will fire up. But if it is off it will not fire up. I have already replaced the ecm and I've tried 3 different ecm's. None of them would fire the check engine light and none would start the truck. I've been going through the wiring but haven't found anything yet. Anyone have some insight on this?
It also will not communicate with my Snapon Ethos pro unless the check engine light is on.
