why was the car discontinued and will this affect its market value?

I don't believe this will affect market value. Manufacturers discontinue cars for a variety of reasons -- to be replaced by new models, to trim the number of cars in the lineup, or even due to low sales or low demand. Someone who wants one of these will definitely look for one and actually it may help the market value if there is no "new" car to compare it to.
