how to remove the battery from a 2004 clk 500

Actually on a 2004 CLK500 the battery in inside the firewall on the left side of the engine compartment. You need to pop off the cabin air filter clips, then remove air filter and the battery is below. Do the research on sustaining power when removing battery as you do not want to re set the entire system if you lose all power.
