I have a 2006 dodge charger it ran hot now when I try to crank it the motor knock what is causing the knocking

Hi, my 06 charger over heated one day and it shut it self down it was my cooling fans..replaced them ran like a jewel.. was at a 4 way stop sign a year later my turn to go thru all of a sudden it sound like someone was under my hood beating it w/a hammer very loud.. long story short, rod blew in engine i had several mechanic look at it..i could get a rebuilt engine or a new one. i bought a new engine..almost $5000 & labor..

that was including labor.
