....well what are you expecting out of this gearbox? another 110,000 miles~? if so, go ahead and change the gearbox oil...in my humble opinion is just LAZY to not do this...if you're lazy, let it be then~

Forgive me on my old time ignorance? By gear box, is that on a four wheel drive unit called the transfer case, or is it the rear end unit? Has it been in a lot of mud or water? Are there any signs of leakage? This is a sealed unit, and dirt does not normally get in and the grease does not stop doing it's job. Motor oil is changed regularly because of the particles entering from the gasoline. It wouldn't hurt to change it if it gives you peace of mind, but there are a lot of old gearboxes out there that have never been changed and they still function. Mostly the level is checked at times so it will not run dry. Factory recommends a transmission oil change after 100k miles. Make sure the filter is changed also. Have the oil fluid checked for particles and signs of burning. The oil will still do it's job, but if it gets polluted, it may cause excessive wear.
