My check engine light is on and the car will not shift out of low, what's wrong?

Have two warning messages or faults.  One is Light sensor warning, the other is ESP not available.  This morning the check engine light was on and the car will not shift out of low.  What is causing this?

Sounds like a transmission solenoid. The car is not shifting out of low as it's pre-programmed to go into a "stay-alive" mode when the trans. does not shift properly. The low gear allows you to drive it in for service rather than have it towed. You'll have to get your electronic stability program checked out at the same time as the two issues may or may not be related.
