Not sure abt the C, SL stands for Super Light and K means Kurz, which is German for short, hence the SLK is a shorter version of the SL Roadster. E I think is Executive. Some letter also stand for the type of petrol the car uses, but this is for older models.

I can't stop thinking about it now! Will have to do some homework, never really thought of it. Hmmm...

The letters are only a referance to the model size of the car. For instance: A, B, C, E, G, ML, R, S... As the letters get bigger, so do the autos they go on. Now the lettewrs after the first, mean something, d=diesel, e= einspritzen (injected), SLK stands for Sport Light Kurtz (short)... And after that, CLS for instance it starts gettting funny. :-)

"K" Kompressor "C" Coupe "S" Sedan "E" Einspritzer (fuel injection) "G" Gelaendewagen (off-road vehicle) or Grand "D" Diesel "T" Turbo or Tourer "S" Sport "L" Leicht (Light weight) "CLS" coupe leicht sport "SL" Sport Leicht ( sport light) "SLK" Sport Light Kompressor Mercedes then started to designate cars by class A, E, C, R, M, G. These Class letters do not appear to have any particular meaning.

I think car maunfactures categories cars for many purposes. First to target different segments in the market and mainly the segment affected by income and the economy as a whole. I beleive C class was made to be affordable for a certain group of people such as workers, S Class was made for CEO and wealthy people. E class combined both to make it affordable for top managers in companies who gets paid well enough but they work for others and their wages are decided by CEO. Of course the different classes could mean more than that but at least this has to do with it. Same thing applies to BMW 3, 5 and 7 series. Check out their prices differences and thier luxury levels. Hammer did the same thing with H1, then came up with an affordable H2 and H3. I hope this makes sense

Jonno "C" stands for Coupe (2 door) FYI Jason (K) Kurtz mean short not small By adding new models this changes the original Model plan nomenclature

S stands for "sonderklasse" which means a car in a class of its own.very special.

C = Compact as has been said. NOT 'Coupe', a Coupe is a 2 door and a C class Estate car definitely is not a Coupe...

C is coupe but Compact is more correct since my C is a 4-door vehicle copy to E but Compact. Any help about my comand screen in my C300 2010: It doesn't pop out most of the times. The radio works well. No fuses are burnt out. I removed the fuse to set up but in vain. No mechanical problem since on rare occasions it pops out to say hi and then Auf viedersehen!!! Your help is appreciated. Thank you.
