I have a 2001 Dodge Van 1500. The electricity appears to be working ok (radio, dome lights, blinkers, dash) but, when I try to start it the engine doesn't want to turn over. Any obvious problems there could be that my simple mind is failing to understand?

I would check, tighten and clean all battery connections. Also clean and tighten the negative connections on the frame and motor. With a bad or dirty connection your lights and other acc could still work but you not get enough cranking amps for it to start the engine.
