Every time I start my truck I notice the mileage left before gas empty drops by 5-8 miles. Is this normal?

Yes mine does the same thing. It's only an estimated mileage. Mine will also jump up or down in miles left by the way I drive. Hard acceleration and it drops. Granny driving and it goes up. Hope this helps.
