the 4WD shifter on my Dodge RAm 1500 isn't connected - it seems to be floating in the shift box. How much is this going to cost to fix.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My son tried to shift our Dodge Ram 1500 out of 4WD and the  4ED shifter became disconnected.  It's not
like we can take the shifter out  - but it is like it is "floating"  Can this be repaired and approx. how much
should I expect to pay?

There is a rod going to a lever on the transfer case. Chances are that rod has broken or fallen off one end. Time to get out, get under and check it out. Another possibility is that the driveling is simply bound up and it can't idle itself out of 4x4. Handle with float then as well. Just driving a while will eventually loosen things up and it will pop out. But, check that linkage first. Its hard to corner on sticky surface in 4x4 and will hurt something! Good Luck!
