Before you check out the fuel pump, check out the Fuel Pump Relay, this module turns on the fuel pump when the key is turned on before the engine starts. Much less expensive and easier to replace than a fuel pump. Some auto parts stores will allow you to take the part and test it, then return it if it doesn't fix your problem.

If your fuel pump is quiet do this .Get out your tire tool and hit the bottom of your gas tank a few time .It might shock your pump enough to get it spinning for a little while longer.

i had somewhat related problem in a custom made car , Found out it was only bad lines btw the fuel pump and carburator/or injector because some of the lines r of rubber they melt or something after a while and clog the lines Hope This helps !!
