what else besides fuel sending unit cause gas gauge to not work

Bad ground at instrument cluster. Faulty wiring. Or bad dash gauge. What exactly is the gauge doing? HTH. - Jim

if the gauge is always reading FULL it is a broken ground wire at the tank which grounds the sending unit to the frame of the vehicle, if the gauge reads empty there is no power in the circut. if there is power and good ground the gauge itself is the culprit
