i have an 02 s10 turns over good will almost start but then sputters and dies

May be a fuel issue, try squirting some starting fluid in the air intake or the throttle body, if it takes off and dies, or even runs a bit, may be a fuel pump, or injectors or the fuel regulator. Check the fuel pressure, but should change out the fuel filter first.

If this is the 4.3L fuel pressure should be 56 to 63 lbs. Also let it sit with the key off, the fuel pressure should not drop more than 5 lbs in 3 minutes. If it does then the spider injection needs to be replaced.
