when it's cold I'm hearing popping sound in the front end what is this?

CV joint


If it does it turning the wheel but not moving look at the strut bushings, they could be damaged due to a bad seal that let water in then froze, could also be tie rods having the same trouble, if it does this while moving and turning then it could be what Tom stated.
