What is the problem when the driver's door lock on a Lexus ES300
Unfortunately, I too was the victim of a Lexus ES300 (aka a Toyota Camry). My mother passed down here 2002 ES300 to me as a graduation gift from high school. What I got were a slew of electrical and starter issues that I was paying out the nose for until the dealer said "Um.. you know this is just a re-badged Toyota Camry...get the parts from the Salvage Yard". BING! The lightbulb went on in my head but I digress... My power door lock and even manually pushing the door lock in the drivers door failed. Shortly thereafter, the doorhandle ceased to function inside the car, so I had to roll down the window, and open the door using the exterior handle (when people would say "Nice Car!" I was like uh "I have to roll down the window to open the door from the outside and I can't lock it"...ratchet). The deal with this is a security issue with Toyota/Lexus. If the code for the security system has been voided by batter disconnection, electrical error, or FOB failure, then the car needs to visit the nearest Toyota or Lexus Dealer for reprogram. The reason the drives door will not lock is because the car is alerting you that the security system is not fully functional. On mine, I could still arm the alarm and lock all 3 other doors, and when I would open the drive door (without disarming the alarm), the alarm would go off however, the dealer informed me that because I ignored that symptom it caused the locking mechanism and then the door actuator to seize. The result $1100.00 in repairs to the DRIVERS DOOR. On a less dramatic note, check the fuse, if the security light is blinking or fully illuminated on the dash, get it to the dealer asap! Best of luck!
