Have a question for someone knowledgablw with Volvos

Asked by Dec 06, 2013 at 01:55 PM about the Volvo XC70

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is there a big difference with a 02 C70 and a 02 XC70 awd as far as the electronics.I 'm  trying to get away from all the electronics my XC70 has which has been a constant pain.If theC70 is similar what about the S70 or a 960. I know a 940 will be reliable because of few electronics. Thanks

This is all personal opinion. I was looking at purchasing a Volvo last year and researched them extensively. The 2001-2003 are model years to stay away from. Due to the new addition of electronic sensors, automatic transmission issues and other issues that you described. The older S70's were more mechanical and reliable. But the 1998 S70 was the last year of mechanical throttle body. So yes, 1998 and older is probably what your looking to purchase, the old 960, 940, 240, and I like the 850's. If you want newer the 2004-07 model years on the S60's and V70's are a good bet as well as they worked out the kinks.

thanks for this info Tom. Hope you can help me with one more question.I had a 760 volvo yrs.ago with many problems and a Volvo mechanic told me I would not have had these had I had a 740. I have a 940 (great car) do You think the 960 might be as trouble free as my 940?
