1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L runs fine and then just starts running erratically and dies
The jeep runs fine for 200 miles or more and then just starts running erratically -drops to an idle and starts jumping around like the timing is off. It won't start again for 2 to 5 minutes, but then will start and run for another month or two and then goes through the same thing again. Sometimes it won't start for 24 hours, but eventually does and will run for another month or two. I've replaced every sensor in the car, oxygen sensors, everything. I put in a new coil and distributor and new computer. There's nothing left to replace. Vacuum is always great - new fuel pump and filter, new injectors, fuel pressure is always good even when it won't start. The only thing I haven;'t replaced is the timing chain and gears. Does anyone think that the timing chain could be causing this problem - how the heck can it run so bad and then run fine for two months? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike
