my van start up but when i put it n to gear it goes dead someone said it was the tranmission wat makes the trans do that

it could be a faulty torque converter engaging when it shouldnt

Correct, and also check the transmission shift solenoid, this could also be bad, causing the torque convertor to engage at idle. So it's fine when your in park and neutral? then it dies in gear? Check the solenoid first, if that is OK, then your due for a new transmission like Dan mentioned.
